About Us

Provident Numismatic Certification (PNC) was originally started as a passion project. The idea was to develop a holder and label with an artistic flare with an emphasis on classical and historical themes. With a love for numismatic conservation, photography, attribution and grading, I decided to create a company that would cover all of these essentials, but would enable individuals to easily customize the label for their needs, catering to the casual collector, enthusiast and historian alike. This is the result of years of research and preparation and decades of experience.

Career & Experience

Alex Masella earned an AS in Digital Cinema from State College of Florida, and graduated with a BA in Professional and Technical Communication with a minor in Business Administration from the University of South Florida.

Masella worked as a grader/numismatist at Numismatic Guaranty Company for over a decade, beginning his professional career in high school. During his time at NGC, he directed the tokens and medals department, which involved the research, grading, attribution, and authentication of rare coins, tokens, medals and other esoteric items.

Rarities handled:

  • 1792 $10 Washington gold eagle pattern. Sold by Heritage Auctions for $1.7 million.
  • Neil Armstrong’s personal space flown gold medal, flown aboard the Apollo 11 flight and taken with him on the moon. It sold for over $2 million.
  • Rare Washington Funeral medals
  • Extraordinary pieces from the Donald G. Partrick collection, including hand-engraved George Washington Indian Peace Medals
  • Examples from the Eric P. Newman collection
  • Examples from the Steve Tannenbaum collection

Over the years Masella has mastered skills in numismatic photography and videography. Using cutting edge technology and newly developed techniques, Masella revolutionized coin videography—pushing the limits of what was possible. In his spare time, he created over a dozen high resolution videos for NGC, showcasing ultra-rarities such as the finest known Brasher’s doubloon, an 1854 S $5 gold eagle, a Brutus EID MAR gold Aureus, and a gold medallion of emperor Diocletian.

Masella also wrote monthly columns for NGC’s newsletter and has delivered many presentations at coin club meetings. He began collecting coins at age 10 and attended the ANA’s Summer Seminar twice as a YN and has returned as an adult.

Masella also has extensive experience with digital video technology, including drone videography (not particularly useful for coins). He has also spent countless hours mastering graphic design and image and video editing via media software like Adobe Photoshop and Premiere Pro. Alex also composes and produces cinematic orchestral music using sample libraries and midi programing with Steinberg Cubase, the same software Hans Zimmer uses to draft his epic film scores.

Alex attributes his success to his faith in God and convictions rooted in Scripture. As Proverbs 16:3 says, “Commit your works to the Lord and your plans will be established.”

"We strive for precision"

From the tiniest elements to the grandest projects, we create new opportunities for coin shops and auction houses to market their coins in an attractive and reliable holder.
